Life throws us all curveballs and sometimes getting a traditional high school diploma is not possible. The General Educational Development test, or GED, is equivalent to a high school diploma. Passing the GED test is important because it can expand employment opportunities, increase wages and make one eligible to attend college.

Starting in February, 2016, all Minnesota GED test takers are able to take their first GED test in each subject for free!  The State of Minnesota is subsidizing the cost while funds last.

WEST Adult Basic Education (ABE) – sponsored by local community education programs – offers free local GED preparation classes. If you are 17 years old or older and not enrolled in high school you can attend GED preparation classes.  Licensed teachers work with students and create a unique study plan for each person.  People who haven’t been in school for a long time are sometimes nervous about going back to classes, but the teachers are there to offer support and encouragement.

Study locally for free: WEST adult education teachers can provide students with a free GED Ready practice test to determine if the student is ready to pass. If they are not ready to pass, then the GED Ready indicates exactly what the student needs to study.

Students do not have to attend classes in their city of residence; they are encouraged to attend classes at any location that suits their needs or more than one site if they choose.

Local classroom sites include Monticello, Buffalo, Big Lake, St. Michael, Becker, Maple Lake, Delano, Foley, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Lester Prairie, Annandale, Orono, Rockford, Wayzata, Watertown and Westonka.

Test locally: Monticello is the official GED testing site for this area. It’s located at Eastview Elementary Family Center, 9375 Fenning Ave NE, Monticello, MN.
